Jon Planas
Described by the late Andy Warhol as a volcano of
uninhibited artistic energy, Peruvian-born Jon Planas
is the original neo-native futuristic artist. One of the
original Absolut Vodka Artists of the 90's,
along with Warhol, Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, Jon
rose to fame in the mid 80's after rave reviews in the
New York Times and media exposure on CNN.
Whether it be extra-terrestrial visitors, classic figures
of ancient courts or animal spirits, Jons imagery
emits tribal messages through the unique communicative
skills of an artist in the modern era.
Jon attributes much of his artistic inspiration to pre-Columbian
and Incan art, and considers himself a conceptual artist
who paints in a style he describes as instinctual
conceptualism.
Well known in art circles for his exciting canvases, his
one-of-a-kind, custom designed wearable art is worn by
such mega-stars as Madonna, Robin Williams, Deborah Harry
and Cyndi Lauper. Jons unique art-on-glass collector
bottles are also highly prized. His original Absolut ad
was so successful that Absolut Vodka commissioned him
to do a new one which has recently appeared in several
national magazines. Absolut also commissioned him to create
the fabulous Hollywood landmark Absolut City billboard
which was a traffic stopper for almost two years on the
famous Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.
Jon has also been commissioned by Red Kamel, J&B and
Metaxa (to name but a few of his corporate sponsors) to
create artwork promoting their products as well. |
