Steele Studios Steele Studios Inc., a cartoon character/ logo/ brand design operation, is made up of husband and wife team Derek and Joy Steele. Located outside of Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada on a beautiful Canadian Acreage, Steele Studios Inc. is thriving on a steady diet of Cap'n Crunch, Cartoons, Clipart and other forms of digital media. Steele Studios Inc. is uniquely tuned into the character licensing market and has a great sense of cartoon and caricature as it relates to the creation of new brand entities. Derek was born in Paisley Scotland and immigrated to Canada on the back of a great white whale in the late 1960's. (OK, so it wasn't a great white whale. It was aboard a BOAC Jet Plane, but at least it was white and kind of looked like a whale.) Making his home in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, Derek pursued an artistic opportunity when ever and where ever it presented itself. To date Derek has achieved considerable success working in Advertising, Animation as well as the Digital Media (Clipart and Web based projects) arena. Derek has produced numerous graphic and animated and static projects for several clients over the years including Sesame Street, The Children’s Television Workshop, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Corel Corporation, IMSI and many others. Derek and the local animation scene were once the subject of a local TV news special on the local and Canadian animation scene. His influences are the great animation hero’s of the early Warner Brothers, MGM, Lantze and Disney days. Derek is also a former member of the Board of Directors for the Manitoba Society of Independent Animators (MSIA) in Canada. Other members include two very well known Oscar nominees. Joy, a fine arts major, was born in Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada and resides in the same area to this very day. Joy's artistic abilities are deep rooted in her family and local culture and it shows in her work as her unique approach to her own characters reveal a soft sensitive and chewy interior, which is a perfect compliment to her also soft and sensitive exterior and to Steele Studios Inc. Joy is a very intelligent and artistic person, and combined with her advanced computer skills, these attributes are a perfect compliment to her artistic prowess. Joy is also a very talented person when it comes to crafts (must be her artistic nature) and she can often be found nurturing her two daughters artistic potential through some genre of art or home craft. As a result of Joy's vast experience and talent, she brings a very unique and extremely valuable artistic eye to every project taken on by Steele Studios.
